Servette FC Jersey 1998 - 99 Retro

Servette Genève started the 21st century as Swiss champions after winning their 17th Swiss title at the end of the 1998/99 season. A stunning performance during the autumn season allowed them to finish 6 points ahead of Grasshopper. The bonus points they earned in the championship group turned out to be invaluable. A tight three-way battle took place with Grasshopper and Lausanne, and those bonus points ensured a hard-fought title for the grenats. Alexandre Rey was comfortably the league's top scorer with 19 goals, well supported by the Dutchman Edwin Vurens. The Bulgarian Martin Petrov, a new arrival, proved to be a fearsome winger under the management of coach Gérard Castella.
